Fundus release notes
Version 1.0.0 (60)
- A clear Inbox says so and nothing more. The Mac no longer offers Add Source there, and iPhone and iPad drop the hint to add one.
- On iPhone and iPad, Queue, Archive or Dismiss in the reader opens the next Item, as on the Mac, so Previous and Next keep working. On iPhone, the first Next Inbox Item from the sidebar opens an Item instead of an empty reader.
- Search finds words as you type them: “podc” finds podcasts.
- When an episode can't play, its play button and its card in the reader offer Try Again, as the player does.
- Long timelines load their next page without stalling, also while Sources refresh. On the Mac, Sources can be selected together, but not together with Inbox or another view.
- The Mac sidebar's menu for a Source offers Rename…. Settings panes fit their contents, also with larger text. With Refresh Sources set to Manually, the Mac no longer refreshes when it opens. Getting Started has three steps, and Fundus asks to show the Inbox count on its Dock icon once your Library opens.
- Report a Problem replaces the Error Log; on iPhone and iPad it is in Settings. Reader themes are gone: every Item uses the reader's own design. iCloud sync is marked as a beta.
- A Source whose feed keeps failing is checked less often, at most hourly and then daily, and after a day the sidebar marks it with a warning sign that says since when. It clears when the feed answers again. A feed that moved to a new address keeps working when its old address goes away.
Version 1.0.0 (58)
- The play buttons on timeline rows and on YouTube posters are the same glass disc with a white symbol, which reads on light and dark pictures alike.
- Dismiss shows a circled cross instead of the trash, which looked like delete.
- An inline YouTube video no longer shows a thin black line along one edge.
Version 1.0.0 (57)
- A podcast episode's card in the reader takes its color from the episode's artwork, as the full player on iPhone does. The artwork is larger, and the card says how much is left, with a Play, Resume, Pause or Replay button. An episode without artwork of its own shows its show's.
Version 1.0.0 (56)
- Fundus looks like Apple's own apps. On the Mac the sidebar is Liquid Glass again, the podcast player floats as a glass capsule, and Settings is laid out like System Settings. On iPhone and iPad the mini player is glass, and the full player takes its color from the episode's artwork.
- Empty views say how Items get there, and an empty Inbox on the Mac offers Add Source…. The Mac's About window is readable in Dark Mode again, and Report a Problem and the Error Log are easier to read.
- On iPhone and iPad, Find in Item uses the system's find bar, as Safari does.
- Library data export keeps Saved Links that are still in the Inbox and lists each Item's attachments. iPhone and iPad can export Library data from Settings.
Version 1.0.0 (55)
- Adding a Source no longer needs a feed's own address. Paste a link to a site, a YouTube channel, video or playlist, a podcast on Apple Podcasts, Overcast, Spotify or Deezer, a SoundCloud account or track, or a Substack, Medium, Reddit or GitHub page, and Fundus finds its feed.
- Add Source shows which kinds of links work and says what a link will add before you add it. A link without a feed is explained under the field, and Help has a new section, Finding a feed. Rename a Source from the sidebar; the sheet no longer has a Name field.
- After Fundus quits unexpectedly, the sidebar offers Report a Problem on the next launch, and the report includes the crash. Error alerts on the Mac offer Report a Problem too.
Version 1.0.0 (54)
- Mac: the selected timeline row is blue only while the timeline has focus, and easier to read in dark mode. Menus say Item and Settings….
- Empty Queue, Favorites, Archive and Error Log say so, as on iOS. An Item with an Arabic or Hebrew title no longer turns the whole article right to left.
- iPhone and iPad: the mini player fits at every text size.
Version 1.0.0 (53)
- Mac: fixes a crash when dismissing the selected Source with Hide Sources with Empty Inbox turned on.
- Help explains Apple Podcasts show and episode links.
Version 1.0.0 (52)
- Mac: File → Add Link saves an Apple Podcasts episode link as a playable episode, with its show notes and artwork. Apple Podcasts show links subscribe to the show.
- A podcast that fails to start no longer replaces a newer position from another device.
Version 1.0.0 (51)
- Faster launch on large Libraries: the window and Inbox appear sooner.
Version 1.0.0 (50)
- iPhone and iPad: a long Library upgrade runs after launch, behind "Updating Your Library". If the Library can't be opened, Fundus says why and offers Report a Problem, on the Mac too.
- Sync: a Source removed on one device stays removed, and changes from other devices still arrive when iCloud storage is full.
- The reader no longer stays blank after a page's first load fails.
Version 1.0.0 (49)
- Every list loads as you scroll, on iPhone as on the Mac, so Archive, Queue, Favorites and search open quickly in large Libraries.
- Clean Up is gone; hiding handled Items does the same. A local file that was renamed or moved in its folder still plays.
- Each feed waits at least 29 minutes between checks, and sites take turns.
Version 1.0.0 (48)
- Large timelines page much faster, and triage no longer reloads the whole list.
- Playback keeps its position when you pause before an episode has loaded, and resumes after a phone call on iPhone. Next and Previous Inbox Item stay in the list you're in.
- Sync: an Item iCloud rejects no longer blocks your other changes, and a rename from another device is no longer undone by a refresh.
Version 1.0.0 (47)
- Inbox and timelines with several Sources load as you scroll.
- Sync recovers when the iCloud data was deleted, a change that can't be applied no longer blocks your uploads, and a large first sync is saved in steps.
- Playback progress is saved only when you listened or moved the position. Failed playback shows Unable to Play.
- Removed: per-Source notifications, the Source Info window, the Mac bulk-dismiss commands, and Send to MarsEdit and Micro.blog.
Versions 1.0.0 (40) to (46)
- Inbox, Queue and Archive are separate places: moving an Item to one removes it from the others.
- Renaming a Source, reconnecting a folder and scanning local media no longer conflict with sync.
- Faster timelines, thumbnails that stay visible while scrolling, website icons for saved links, and smoother iOS scrolling during sync.
- An older copy of a YouTube video's progress from another device no longer rewinds it.
Version 1.0.0 (39)
- Mac: fixes the remaining Inbox preview issue from build 37. Deleting, archiving, or queueing items now updates the preview to the final selection, including repeated deletions and clearing the Inbox.
Version 1.0.0 (37)
- Mac: after deleting an Inbox item, the preview follows the next selected item instead of continuing to show the removed item.
Version 1.0.0 (36)
- A cleaner design on Mac, iPhone, and iPad: compact item rows, consistent blue accents, and clearer source labels.
- Articles, YouTube videos, and podcasts share a compact source, title, and date header above their content.
- Podcasts have a simpler playback card with duration and playback status. YouTube descriptions preserve their line breaks.
- Mac: deleting and archiving items preserves neighboring rows and cached artwork for faster responses in large inboxes.
- Improved scrolling, media presentation, and feed-error reporting.
Version 1.0.0 (30)
- Mac and iOS: YouTube videos open from a clean thumbnail with native play/pause, seeking, fullscreen, and playback options. Captions remain available without title, logo, or recommendation overlays covering the video.
- Video appears above its source, title, and description. iOS keeps the video aspect ratio while zooming and preserves playback across fullscreen transitions.
- Mac: source discovery shows progress in the Add Source sheet and prevents duplicate submissions.
- Cache cleanup ignores already-missing files and records genuine failures for retry.
- Saved links have a clearer source label, and Mac reader spacing no longer adds a second toolbar inset.
Version 1.0.0 (28)
- Mac: Help → Report a Problem lets you review recent diagnostic history, describe an issue, and save or email a report. Source details are optional; nothing is sent automatically.
- Diagnostic history is bounded and now connects feed requests and failures with startup, sync, and playback context on both platforms.
- Feed errors distinguish webpages, empty responses, and unsupported formats.
- Mac source deletion captures its targets before confirmation and records deletion and undo for investigation.
Upcoming Mac public beta
This candidate focuses on stability, safe content handling, and a clear feedback path. The exact installed version and build are shown in Fundus → About Fundus and in TestFlight.
- Remote ZIP theme installation has been removed. Bundled and local themes remain available.
- Publisher scripts are off by default in the reader, automatic page replacement is restricted, and reader website data is temporary.
- Feed downloads have response-size, concurrency, and time limits. The response cache has a fixed budget.
- Help includes backup and recovery guidance, and support information can be copied from the Help menu.
- Open-source notices are available from About.
Current limitations
The public release is Mac-only. iOS remains internal. JSON and OPML exports cannot restore an entire Library. Local-media files must remain accessible on each device. Script-dependent articles may need to be opened in your browser.
